Tech Rage IT’s Matt Rose Discusses Social Media Privacy Risks and Data Exposure on FOX 35 Orlando

Longwood, Fla., (May 6, 2026) - Matt Rose, Chief Experience Officer and Co-founder of Tech Rage IT, recently appeared on FOX 35 Orlando to discuss growing concerns surrounding social media privacy, phishing attacks, and the increasing sophistication of online scams after reports surfaced involving a Florida man allegedly exposing sensitive personal information through TikTok.

During the segment, Rose explained that while the story drew attention because of TikTok, the methods used to obtain personal data were likely not new. Instead, they reflect the same phishing, fake application, and social engineering tactics cybersecurity professionals have warned about for years.

"The concerning part is not necessarily the platform," Rose said during the interview. "It's how easy it still is for attackers to trick people into giving away information or granting access without realizing it."

The FOX 35 discussion focused on how attackers increasingly rely on publicly available information, deceptive apps, and seemingly harmless online interactions to gather sensitive data such as passwords, location information, device identifiers, banking activity, and answers to common security questions.

Rose also noted that artificial intelligence is accelerating the problem by making phishing campaigns and fake content significantly more convincing and scalable than in previous years.

"What's changed is not necessarily the playbook," Rose said. "It's how sophisticated these scams have become and how quickly information spreads once it's exposed."

The interview also highlighted the broader privacy tradeoffs associated with modern online platforms and mobile applications, many of which collect significant amounts of behavioral and personal data through user permissions and terms of service agreements that are often accepted without review.

Rose encouraged both businesses and individuals to approach online activity more cautiously by slowing down before clicking links, downloading applications, or participating in online trends that request personal information.

"At this point, people should assume that anything they put online, click on, or hand over to an app could eventually become public," Rose said. "That doesn't mean people should panic. It just means they need to be more intentional and aware."

As cyber threats continue evolving, Tech Rage IT works with businesses throughout Central Florida to help strengthen cybersecurity awareness, improve employee training, and reduce exposure to phishing and social engineering attacks.
