Windows 10 Support Is Ending. Here's What You Need To Know

September 01, 2025

On October 14, 2025, Microsoft will officially end support for Windows 10.

What does that mean for your business?

Your devices won't suddenly stop working, but they will become more vulnerable and less reliable. Without free security updates, bug fixes or technical support, continuing to use Windows 10 is a major risk.

Here's what you need to know.

Why This Matters for Business Owners

1. Security Threats
Outdated systems don't get critical security patches, making them easy targets for hackers, viruses and ransomware. If your business handles sensitive data, this could lead to serious breaches and financial losses.

2. Software Issues
Many programs will stop supporting Windows 10, meaning you may start seeing glitches or crashes. Eventually, key tools you rely on could stop working altogether.

3. Compliance Concerns
If your industry is regulated, running unsupported software can land you in hot water. You could face fines or lose certifications if you don't stay up to date.

What Are Your Options?

Upgrading sounds simple, but it can get tricky. Windows 11 has strict hardware requirements, and not every PC running Windows 10 is compatible. If your device doesn't meet the specs, you'll need to consider alternatives:

  • Buy a new PC that supports Windows 11
  • Sign up for Microsoft's Extended Security Updates (ESU)
  • Switch to a different operating system, like Linux
  • Or... do nothing (not recommended!)

Whatever you choose, back up your files before making changes.

About Extended Security Updates (ESU)

If you aren't ready to upgrade, Microsoft is offering vb one more year of critical security patches through its ESU program. You can register by paying a $30 fee, redeeming 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points, or enabling Windows Backup to sync files with OneDrive.

Keep in mind: this is a short-term patch, not a long-term fix. You must register before October 14, 2025.
