Tech Rage IT's Matt Rose on FOX 35: Why Instagram’s New Teen Filter Sparks Broader Digital Safety Questions
Winter Springs, Fla. (October 16, 2025) - Instagram's move to restrict teen accounts to PG-13 content may sound like a consumer story—but on FOX 35 Orlando, Tech Rage IT's Matt Rose explained why it's part of a much larger digital safety conversation that businesses can't ignore.
Rose, Chief Experience Officer at the Winter Springs-based IT firm, joined FOX 35's Garrett Wymer to discuss how Instagram's new moderation settings will work and why even "imperfect" protections can be a step in the right direction.
"It's a positive step," Rose said. "It takes away a bit of that worry—but it's still not a perfect model. Whether it's AI or human moderation, content filters are always going to be a little nuanced."
While the feature is aimed at protecting younger users, Rose pointed out the wider implications of how algorithms, default settings, and account setups impact tech experiences across age groups.
"The only ironclad solution is you don't give your kids any level of electronics—but that's not realistic," Rose noted. "It's the same with business technology. You have to find the right balance between usability and oversight."
The conversation also touched on Microsoft 365 service issues and a recent Jeep software update that caused unexpected shutdowns—highlighting how technology reliability and user experience intersect in both personal and professional settings.
"One small update, one button clicked wrong—and it can have crazy effects," Rose added. "Even when it's not a security breach, outages and glitches still impact productivity and trust."
